Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage: what it is, how many sessions and the price in Cluj
Updated on · the Biutiful by Grama Aesthetics team, Cluj-Napoca
Brazilian lymphatic drainage is a fast, firm manual drainage inspired by the Renata França method that moves fluid from the tissues towards the lymph nodes. Its main effect is de-puffing: a flatter belly and lighter legs right after the session. It does not melt fat; for a lasting effect it is done as a series of 5–10 sessions, followed by maintenance.
What Brazilian lymphatic drainage is
The technique was popularised by Brazilian therapist Renata França and went viral on TikTok and Instagram thanks to "before and after" photos of de-puffed bellies. Unlike classic lymphatic drainage, which is very gentle, the Brazilian version uses fast, rhythmic and firm movements, with "pumping" pressure over the lymph node areas.
The lymphatic system has no pump of its own, like the heart. Fluid moves thanks to muscle contraction, breathing and movement. The massage helps this flow mechanically, which is why its most visible effect is less swelling.
What it does and what it does not do
- It reduces water retention and bloating — visible right after the first session, and better maintained over a series of sessions.
- It gives a feeling of lighter legs, useful for people who stand or sit a lot.
- It can temporarily improve the look of cellulite, because the tissue holds less fluid.
- It does not melt fat or make you lose weight: the centimetres lost are fluid, not fat tissue.
- It does not "eliminate toxins" — that is a marketing phrase with no scientific basis.
Studies on manual lymphatic drainage show reduced fluid volume and limb circumference, but only modest effects on fat. For localised fat and firmness, drainage is combined with body contouring treatments.
How many sessions, and how often
We recommend a series of 5–10 sessions, once or twice a week, followed by a maintenance session every 2–4 weeks. Results depend a lot on what you do in between: hydration, daily movement, less salt and alcohol.
A session lasts about an hour. You can go straight back to your usual activities; it is normal to need the toilet more often in the hours after.
When it should not be done (contraindications)
- acute infection or fever;
- deep vein thrombosis or thrombophlebitis, current or recent;
- uncontrolled heart failure or severe kidney problems;
- active cancer, without your oncologist’s approval;
- the first trimester of pregnancy (later, only with your doctor’s approval);
- wounds, lesions or skin infections in the treated area;
- after surgery, only with your surgeon’s approval.
If you have a chronic condition or take medication, tell us at the consultation. When in doubt, we ask for your doctor’s approval.
Brazilian, classic or pressotherapy?
Brazilian drainage is the most energetic and gives the most visible de-puffing effect. Classic manual drainage is gentler, suited to sensitive legs or after exercise. Pressotherapy (Limfa Ritual) drains with an air-chamber suit and is the most relaxing option.

Frequently asked questions
Does Brazilian lymphatic drainage help you lose weight?
Not in the sense of losing fat. It reduces the fluid held in the tissues, so the belly and legs look slimmer and the scale may show a little less, but that is water, not fat.
Does Brazilian lymphatic drainage hurt?
It is firmer than classic drainage, but it should not hurt. Tell us at any time if the pressure is too strong and we adjust it.
How long does the effect last?
The de-puffing after one session usually lasts a few days. After a series of 5–10 sessions, with hydration and movement, the effect lasts longer; maintenance sessions keep it.
Can it be done after liposuction?
Drainage after surgery is done only with the approval of the surgeon who operated on you, following their protocol. Bring us their written recommendation and we will adapt.
