Loose skin after weight loss (including after Ozempic): which non-invasive treatments help
Updated on · the Biutiful by Grama Aesthetics team, Cluj-Napoca
After fast weight loss, skin cannot keep up with the lost volume and stays loose, especially on the face, neck, belly and arms. Radiofrequency, focused ultrasound (HIFU) and microneedling stimulate collagen and can visibly tighten mild to moderate laxity over a few months. Large amounts of excess skin can only be fixed surgically.
Why skin sags after weight loss
Skin contains collagen and elastin that keep it taut. When the volume underneath drops quickly, the skin does not retract as fast, especially after 35–40, when collagen production slows down. GLP-1 medicines (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro) have made this very visible: American plastic surgeons report a strong rise in 2025 in lift requests linked to these drugs.
"Ozempic face" is the popular name for a face that looks more tired and saggy after weight loss: hollow cheeks, a less defined jawline, deeper wrinkles.
Which non-invasive treatments help
- Radiofrequency gently heats the deep layers of the skin and stimulates collagen; it suits the belly, arms, thighs and face.
- Focused ultrasound (HIFU) works deeper, at the layer a surgical facelift tightens, for the face, double chin and neck; the effect builds over 2–3 months.
- Microneedling improves the texture and firmness of facial skin and reduces the look of thin skin.
- Electrostimulation tones the muscles under the skin, which makes the contour firmer, but it does not tighten the skin itself.

What you can realistically expect
Non-invasive treatments work for mild and moderate laxity: the skin looks tighter and smoother, without the excess disappearing completely. Results appear gradually over 2–3 months as new collagen forms, and depend on age, how much weight you lost and how stable your weight is.
If the skin hangs in folds, especially on the belly after losing tens of kilos, the only effective solution is an abdominoplasty or another surgical lift. We will tell you honestly at the consultation if that is your case.
When to start
Ideally once your weight has been stable for at least 2–3 months. If you are still losing weight, you can start firming treatments to maintain skin quality, but the final result is judged after stabilisation.
Frequently asked questions
Does loose skin after Ozempic tighten on its own?
Partly, over time, especially in younger people and after moderate weight loss. After fast weight loss and over 40, a visible laxity usually remains, which responds well to radiofrequency and HIFU.
How many radiofrequency sessions are needed?
For the body we usually recommend 6–8 sessions. We set the exact number and interval at the consultation, based on the area and the degree of laxity.
HIFU or radiofrequency for the face?
HIFU works deeper and suits the facial contour, double chin and neck, with 1–2 sessions a year. Radiofrequency is more superficial and done in series. Sometimes we combine them.
Can I have treatments while taking Ozempic?
Yes, non-invasive device treatments do not interact with the medication. Tell us which treatment you take and since when, so we can choose the right moment.
Want a plan for you?
The first consultation is free: we assess the area, tell you honestly what result is realistic and which treatment suits you, if any does.
